Inspiration
Over time, we noticed that Twitter users usually have to scroll through their Twitter Feed, which is full of tweets curated from a lot of sources, including people they follow, topics they follow, and tweet interactions of the people they follow etc.
This makes the average Twitter user’s Feed a jumble of tweets on different topics and subjects. This doesn’t enable focused work, and important information could go unnoticed in this random stream of tweets.
What it does
Patmore gives users the power to choose to see ONLY tweets around categories they pick.
This helps reduce the noise in their Twitter Feed and reduces the probability of falling into rabbit holes on Twitter like we all often do.
How we built it
There are two ways users can interact with the product; an Android app and a Twitter bot.
The Android app works by aggregating tweets in categories selected by users during the onboarding process. Then users see tweets curated around the categories they selected in a structured format that allows them to scroll through categories and swipe through tweets in each category.
Think Twitter meets Insta stories in a way that helps users quickly take in the most important tweets in categories of their choice in a hyper-focused form. No falling into the rabbit hole of random tweets ever again.
Users can also interact with the product via a Twitter bot. In this case, they subscribe to categories of their choice via the DM of the bot. They then begin to receive Collections in their DM containing tweets around the categories they selected.
We plan on releasing an iOS app in the future.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the challenges we ran into include creating a brand new UI for the app since we do not currently have something similar to draw inspiration from. We also had some issues handling errors when building the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are especially proud of how fast we were able to complete the development cycle from ideation to creation. We look forward to iterating severally on the product idea until we get to product-market fit.
What we learned
While creating Patmore, I had to learn how to create a signed HTTP request. It was something I have never had to do before, so building Patmore made it necessary for me to learn it.
I also learned about oauth2 scopes and creating a custom token authenticator for managing access tokens.
What's next for Patmore
We believe there is still a lot more work to be done on Patmore going forward.
We plan on hiring a professional UX/UI designer to help make the app more user-friendly, after carrying out a whole lot more user research to determine the best way forward.
We would also plan to launch an iOS app sometime in the future.
