Inspiration
As biomedical engineering students, we recognize the barriers that are present in patient-doctor communication. It's a common issue for patients to forget information from their doctor visit, so our platform looks to reduce the stress on patients of having to remember all the details of their visit. Furthermore, it is important to keep record of important information leading up to appointments. More often than not, patients will provide inaccurate information from forgetfulness at their appointments. With Patient2Doctor, doctors can track their patient's progress as patients can update their profile after each case, symptom, or injury, as well as notes on what occurred, for more accurate information so that physicians may provide more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
What it does
Patient2Doctor facilitates the storage, access, and update of medical information from both sides, the doctor and the patient through a web-based interface.
How we built it
We built Patient2Doctor using the Flask framework, a SQL and Python backend, and an HTML, CSS, JS frontend.
Challenges we ran into
Working with the Flask framework was an entirely new experience for all of us, so there was a steep learning curve. Additionally, connecting our independent components also proved to be quite challenging (ie. connect front end to back end to database).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the user interface design, and the general aesthetics of the pages. We are also proud of being able to figure out some of the frontend-backend-database connections using Flask.
What we learned
We learned some rudimentary full-stack web development, working with mySQL, Flask, and HTML/CSS/JS. Additionally, we greatly improved our workflow by becoming much more familiar and comfortable with Git and GitHub.
What's next for Patient2Doctor
We hope to incorporate a mental health aspect into our platform, working specifically with NLP to determine how a patient is feeling mentally.
