Some healthy competition between dorms never hurt anyone, but which dorm is the SICKEST of them all? Patient Zero keeps you in the loop about campus epidemics so that you can take all necessary steps to avoid falling sick. Interact with different visualizations of illnesses being spread around campus and learn which buildings you should avoid and for how long! You can update your health status and monitor your friends' statuses as well. Using Patient Zero, we're aiming to helps students do everything in their power to stay healthy!
How we built it
To create an accessible platform for all students and faculty on campus, we housed Patient Zero in a web-application. We utilized the Google Maps API to generate campus visualizations and Django to build the web-app that relays them to our users. We used PostgreSQL to maintain a database of users.
Challenges we ran into
A LOVELY plethora of database problems.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Actually submitting a HackMIT project for the first time! We achieved our minimum viable product for the hackathon and managed to develop some additional features.
What's next for Patient Zero
More features to enhance connectedness across campus.
- Alert system for resident peer mentors/GRTs, links to Student Support Services.
- Polishing + expanding visualizations.
- Completing symptoms feature to allow students to match their symptoms against common ones across campus.
