Inspiration
I wanted to create a website that helps women and nonbinary people navigate the workplace, especially since STEM industries are traditionally male-dominated. I wanted to target specific concerns like poor connections, lack of skills and socio phobia in female and nonbinary employees. As such, I singled out five categories to evaluate how open a company is: Workplace Culture, Employee Resource Groups, Feedback Mechanisms, Diversity Policies, and Representation in Leadership. Then, I chose two evaluation methods, team research and user polls. According to research, Women often struggle to see themselves in tech careers because they haven't seen many successful women in the field and so they lack the confidence to get started.
What it does
Pathway2STEM tackles the confidence gap issue by showcasing inspiring women who are rocking the tech world. Through our Pathway2STEM mentor match and skill improvement program, you can connect with amazing mentors who will guide you on your coding journey. Sharpen your skills and gain recognition with our website Pathway2STEM. Climb the leaderboard and see your progress alongside other women. You can also use our Job Board to discover free women-oriented tech events and latest job updates. Join a supportive community of women who are changing the face of tech, one line of code at a time.

Challenges we ran into
Many of the tools I used to create this project were new to me. This was my first time using Vercel, Supabase, and a couple of other React packages. Additionally, I don't have much experience coding in Typescript, tailwindcss with React. As such, I had to learn many new things along the way as I was creating this project. I also worked on this project by myself which meant I had to learn many different aspects of web development..
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm glad that I was able to use this hackathon as a way to learn many new things about web development. Additionally, this is the first time I've completed a hackathon focused on web apps, as most of my experience in hackathons has been game jams.
What we learned
Through this hackathon, I was able to learn more about typescript, React-Vite, tailwindcss and the other tools I used to create Pathway2STEM. I learned how to create a relational database on Supabase and how to fetch and update this data. Using these new skills, I was able to make a simple search engine for the first time. Additionally, I used the reactjs-popup package to create user polls. I also improved my skills in TS and Tailwindcss.
What's next for Pathway2STEM
I hope to expand Patyway2STEM and for it to include more features in the future. I also want to dive deeper into its current features to see how they can be improved!
