Inspiration

We were inspired by classic first person shooters like doom and goldeneye.

What it does

Pathogen punisher is a 3D first person shooter. The player takes on the role of a miniaturized soldier defending a host cell from a coronavirus infection. The player must defend against waves of enemies with limited health and three antivirus-themed weapons. The project also includes a website to introduce the game and provide information about COVID-19.

How we built it

Unity was used to create the game. Aseprite and Magicavoxel were used to create art for the game. FL Studio was used for the creation of the soundtrack and for all sound design. We built the website from scratch using HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

Challenges we ran into

During the programming of the game we ran into lots of bugs, such as enemies not pathfinding properly and the player model seeming to defy the laws of physics. In building the website we faced and eventually overcame issues implementing JavaScript. We also had to frequently reevaluate the scope of the project to stay within the time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team comprised entirely of first-time hackers we are very proud to submit a fairly complete video game demo with a fully original soundtrack and sound design.

What we learned

We learned that delegation and cooperation are both vital when working in a team. We also built on our skills, learning new ways to use JavaScript and Unity, and learning how to tie sounds to in game events to create a more immersive play experience.
