Inspiration
The idea for PathMind came from my own personal experience. Last year, when I was trying to figure out which college to join, I was completely lost. I had so many questions but didn't know who to ask.
Fast forward to this year—I am now in college, and recently, a lot of junior students started coming up to me. They were asking the exact same questions I had back then: "Which college is good?", "What branch should I choose?", "How is the placement scenario here?" and "What are the hostel fees?"
It hit me then. This confusion is a universal problem for students every single year. Not everyone has a senior or a mentor they can talk to. I realized we needed a solution that could act as a 24/7 personal guide for these students. That’s how the idea for PathMind was born.
What it does
PathMind is your personal AI college mentor. It is designed specifically to help students figure out their future without the stress.
Instead of scrolling through 50 confusing tabs on different university websites, a student just types the name of a college they are interested in. Instantly, our app provides a clear, easy-to-read snapshot of that college—including world rankings, establishment year, and accreditations.
But the best part is the interactive chat. Students can ask anything—like "What's the highest starting salary?" or "Should I take Computer Science or IT here?"—and the AI answers them like a friendly senior. We also added a "Future Self" button where the AI acts as a 28-year-old successful professional who graduated from that exact college, giving you life and career advice.
How we built it
We used React.js and Vite for a fast and responsive frontend. For styling, we used Tailwind CSS to create a clean, mobile-first design. For the AI brain, we integrated the Google Gemini API to generate smart college snapshots and chat responses. We also added a custom language selector so the app works in 14 different languages.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was making sure the AI gave short, accurate answers instead of long, boring paragraphs. We had to test a lot of different prompts to train the AI to speak like a friendly human mentor.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
we are very proud of the Safety Interceptor. If a student types words related to depression or self-harm, the AI immediately pauses and provides an emergency helpline number (like 988). We are also proud of how premium and fast the user interface feels.

What's next for PathMind - Your AI College Mentor
What's next for PathMind i am plan to add Voice AI Integration. This means students from rural areas or parents who aren't comfortable typing can simply tap a microphone and talk to the AI mentor in their local language, receiving voice replies just like a real counselor on a phone call.
