Inspiration
As first-year students, we often felt lost and confused about our careers and our financial goals, so we decided to create Pathlight, an AI-based platform to help tackle the challenges that come with career and financial choices. We targeted specifically first-generation and immigrant women who may not have access to many opportunities while still making it accessible to all women.
What it does
Career Quiz Real-time income and wealth graph with adjustable sliders Opportunities nearby that would help going down the career path connects first-generation and immigrant women with mentors who have experience and are willing to help. Customized roadmap with hoverable definitions of financial terms
How we built it
We started with jotting down all our ideas on google docs and then painted a high level overview of what it would look like on a whiteboard. Collaborative brainstorming on Google Docs Used typescript for the entire codebase and tailwind for the frontend Used claude and chat gpt to brainstorm ideas and generate building blocks for our code
Challenges we ran into
Code bugs Pivoting our entire idea from something niche to something that would support all young women Incorporating iterated feedback
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finding an idea that we are passionate about and that we would actually use Incorporated our groups’s various viewpoints into a cohesive idea. Enhancing critical thinking skills Proactive communication Time management and incorporating prototype feedback effectively
What we learned
The importance of feedback from actual users Prompt engineering skills and using AI to craft and implement ideas Narrowing down to one specific solution Learned how to use Tailwind and Vercel
What's next for Pathlight
Incorporate a chatbot on the roadmap section where the user can ask to include own personal financial or career goals and adjust the ai-built roadmap Get more users to test our site
