Inspiration

We wanted to create a hack that displays helpful resources for those that are less fortunate, and we decided that we could make a map that allows people to add in additional resources to help each other, resulting in a stronger community and bridging the advantage gap in society.

What it does

PathFindR is a website/web app that allows anyone to add additional resources (crowdsourcing) on top of a digital map, powered by the Google Maps JavaScript API.

How I built it

We utilized HTML & CSS for the frontend, and JavaScript for handling the map, crowdsourcing, and features. We used Firebase for database storage.

Challenges I ran into

Handling the map API and adding new custom features was very difficult, considering we were using the specific API for the first time. We also had to figure out how to store crowdsourced data into a Firebase realtime database.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of / What I learned

  • Mastering the majority of the Google Maps JavaScript API features
  • Learning how to use the Google Cloud Console
  • Learning to use Firebase for projects

What's next for PathFindR

  • Physically deploying PathFindR in kiosks around urban areas.
  • Constantly updating PathFindR with newer features & login system for users
