PathFinder

Inspiration

To provide support to first-generation low-income students as they often face significant challenges that can hinder their academic and professional success. These students typically lack access to the resources, guidance, and support systems that their peers might take for granted.

By providing a comprehensive suite of tools and resources tailored to their needs, PathFinder helps these students overcome barriers and achieve their dreams.

What it does

Allows FGLI students to access a range of tools, including getting mentorship from industry professionals. There are also features that allow students to take tests to tailor their experience, including finding eligible scholarships, relevant extracurriculars, and colleges that resonate with their values.

Challenges we ran into

Creating an appealing UI/UX, and ideating how to implement the technologies needed to bring PathFinder to life. This involved a lot of research to find the optimum frameworks and necessary APIs to allow for the planned functionalities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Creating a concrete step-by-step plan and a visually appealing web design on Figma. We are also proud to be able to work under stringent time conditions and requirements to create a detailed presentation, video demo, and report.

What we learned

Learning and developing knowledge about all the steps that are required to launch a successful digital product. Including ideating, designing, programming, testing, and maintenance. We have significantly improved our planning, delegation, and communication skills due to our team members having over 12 hours in time differences.

What's next for PathFinder

To create the website, we also plan to develop an app to make it more accessible. Additionally, an AI chatbot will be implemented to help navigate the website and provide quick information. Lastly, we will be adding additional sections with resources such as financial literacy workshops and a platform to find internships & work expirience with more to come down the line.
