Inspiration
Iced Defense was inspired by my love for flying drones and my favorite game genre — tower defense. I wanted to blend both into one fun VR experience where you’re not just placing defenses, but actually flying the defense yourself.
What It Does
You fly a combat drone to protect your small town from waves of invading enemies trying to destroy your buildings. The longer you survive, the higher your score.
Built With
• Unity Engine
• VR tools and physics
Major Challenge
Getting the drone (and enemies) to fly properly was the hardest part. Making their movement feel smooth and natural in 3D space took a lot of trial and error.
Accomplishments
• Successfully combining drone flying and tower defense in VR
• Creating a fully playable VR defense experience
What I Learned
Using head tracking for targeting makes air combat feel way more natural than using a thumbstick. It really boosts immersion.
What’s Next for Iced Defense
• More enemy types
• New weapon options
• More ways to make the game intense and fun
