Inspiration
During the pandemic, we all set out towards local retirement homes, starting an organization connecting seniors with technology in our community. Throughout our experiences, we noticed a common trend of seniors hoping to find a better password tracking system. This was the perfect opportunity to design such an application that would help solve this problem.
What it does
Our application allows seniors to easily manage their passwords in an accessible way. It includes many features tailored to seniors’ use, such as large font, simple and clear text, and a contrasting colour scheme to support colour blindness. We’ve included a lot of support and guidance to give seniors the best experience, especially in the FAQ which is easily accessible through the help button on every screen.
How we built it
First starting with a paper prototype, we worked out the different screens and their connections. Then, we designed these screens in Canva, which we then exported to Figma and then Thunkable. Using Thunkable, we connected our sign-in page to a firebase, forming a log-in platform.
Challenges we ran into
One of our challenges was our inexperience using Figma, thus, faced with the tight timelines, we worked around this by finding a way to export our Canva designs to Figma which is then able to export into Thunkable.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Through the planning and development of our app, we were able to build an application that we foresee can truly help the seniors we are working with. We’re proud that we were able to build a plan within this short timeframe and our thorough considerations of accessibility features based off of our experiences working with seniors.
What we learned
Time Management: balancing our time commitments and evaluating realistic goals and accomplishments Communication: amongst ourselves, gaining insights from mentors Perseverance: sticking to our plan and debugging issues Fun and Teamwork: Assigning tasks to team members with individual strengths, laughing and enjoying the creative process and making new friends Balancing Creativity and Technicality: Building and applying, in real-time, our knowledge and skills while exploring the ways in which we can make in impact in a real-world setting
