Inspiration
I wanted to create a tool that not only checks password strength but also teaches users why a password is secure or vulnerable, while keeping everything private in the browser.
What it does
Password Guardian analyzes password strength, estimates crack time, detects common weaknesses and personal information, simulates attacks, and suggests stronger passwords and passphrases.
How we built it
I built the app with React, using entropy-based scoring, password pattern detection, attack simulations, and a modern, responsive user interface, using Claude free version for the programming.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing realistic password scoring with usability was challenging, especially accounting for common patterns that simple entropy calculations can miss.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud to have created a privacy-first tool that provides educational feedback, realistic security analysis, and an intuitive user experience.
What we learned
I learned more about React, state management, UI design, password security, entropy, and how attackers evaluate weak passwords.
What's next for Password Guardian
I plan to add breach detection, password manager integration, accessibility improvements, support for multiple languages, and more advanced security insights.
