Our inspiration was the rich history around the world and the shifting of historical sites in the face of modern pressures. One of our team members visited a historical site, and seeing modernization surrounding monumental history made it harder for them to connect with rich history. There is a growing disconnect between generations and history, inspiring us to create PastPort. Our application, PastPort, lets you walk through history. Think immersive city exploration and guided narration tours to walk through 1890s Paris or 1920s NYC in real-time augmented reality. We built our prototype with FigmaMake and its included design tools. We learned a lot about using Figma to effectively tell your product's story. We also learned about the expansive tourism industry and historical preservation. Some challenges we faced were finding historically consistent media and entry-level partnerships that benefit us. In the future for PastPort, we want to partner with tourism partners and expand to develop city-specific tourism paths. We also want to embed Strava’s fitness journey tracking for a wider target audience that our app could reach.
