Passaic Shield believes that community is valuable when it is accessible. Our app connects people who are walking in dangerous streets, in order to walk together. Proceeds go to gang rehabilitation.
Inspiration: We love our city, and we want to add value to it. We believe that learning, experience, and beliefs dictate our behaviors. That is why we approached addressing an insecurity in our community when it comes to gang violence and stealing.
What it does: Our app allows community members to talk and walk with people in their area who are walking the same way. We are also looking to team up with law enforcement, to help provide more information to the authorities, as well as provide insight to the walking paths of our customers.
How we built it: We spent two full school days developing the idea and building the app.
Challenges we ran into: COVID 19 made it difficult to meet in person, but we persevered.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We have never taken a coding course before. We are proud of the application we've built.
What we learned: If we want to build something of value, we have to approach it by solving problems.
