Inspiration

As a student, I know how hard it can be to find fast, reliable exam prep help — especially without access to a tutor or expensive resources. I wanted to build something that could give students instant, AI-powered explanations and study support, right from their phone.

What it does

PassabiAI is an AI study app I built to help Nigerian students prepare for WAEC, NECO and JAMB. You can chat with the AI tutor, ask any question and get step-by-step explanations, take quizzes, and even snap a photo of a question to get it solved.

It also has practice questions, a study plan and progress tracking, so students can see how they're improving. You can install it on your phone like a normal app.

How we built it

I built PassabiAI entirely on my phone, with no laptop. I used Claude and Lovable to help me build it, and I learned a lot along the way.

The app uses React and TypeScript, Supabase for login and saving chats, and Vercel to host it. The AI tutor is powered by Gemini and Groq. Whenever something broke, like login problems and build errors, I kept debugging with Claude's help until it worked.

Challenges we ran into

Authentication was the biggest challenge — getting Supabase login to work reliably took nearly two weeks of debugging. Deploying was hard too. One small syntax mistake in a single file made my whole Vercel build fail, and I had to track it down from the build logs on my phone.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting a working, deployed AI exam-prep app built entirely from a phone, with no laptop — as a 14-year-old, self-taught developer.

What we learned

Debugging auth issues taught me a lot about how Supabase sessions and tokens work. I also learned how to read build errors and how to structure a growing codebase, not just quick fixes.
