💡 Inspiration

When I heard about the disruption of daily life in Ukraine, I felt sad and helpless. I donated to a charitable organization in support of the citizens, but I wondered, "Where is my money really going?"

The crisis has impacted Ukraine's local economy, causing it to plummet by 15% in just a few months. Their local restaurants are the heart of their economy, and, as a big foodie, I wanted to find a way to best support them directly.

💻 What it does

Paska is a resource platform that connects users with restaurants in need in Ukraine that they can donate to. With the help of their donations, restaurants can continue to feed their communities and stay open post-conflict. The site lists information about each restaurant and what donations will be used towards (ex: takeout boxes and produce), giving users a clear idea of the impact of their donations.

During this hackathon, I was able to research and reach out to a few restaurants in Ukraine via Instagram DM. As I continue to expand Paska, I hope to get more restaurants on board!

Throughout the website, there are also cool design features, such as the color-changing background and cafe playlist at the bottom of the main page 🙂

Fun Fact: "Paska" is a national Ukranian treat used in celebrations, especially Easter.

🔨 How I built it

Paska was built with HTML, CSS, and JS. Plus, I used a backend API to process the data from the form that restaurants fill out to be a part of the site.

😥 Challenges I ran into

  • Positioning issues with HTML and CSS (figuring out how to align the restaurant cards).
  • Time management since there was a lot of research involved with this project.

😎 Accomplishments that I'm proud of

This was my first time focusing on creating a cohesive UI/UX design. I learned how to create a site that is user friendly, interactive, and works- all of which I am proud of!

🌇 What's next for Paska

Currently, Paska is focused on restaurants in Ukraine. In the future, I would love to help other countries in need.
