Most children’s drawings live on the fridge for a while, then disappear into a drawer. I wanted to give them a longer life—not by replacing the original, but by giving a family a new way to enjoy it.

In Pashabook, a parent takes or chooses a drawing, adds its details, then picks Japanese or English, a book size, and a story style. Pashabook creates a story with illustrated pages and narration. A parent can include a registered child’s nickname in the story. The original stays in Growth Log, and the finished book stays in the library to read again. Families can also listen in audio-only mode; paid subscribers can export a finished book as a video.

The part that took the most care was everything around generation. A book takes time to create, so we had to make its progress clear, preserve the original, and make retries safe. The app is built with Expo and React Native. AWS handles accounts, stored drawings and books, and background generation; RevenueCat manages subscriptions and restores access across devices.

The moment we’re building for is a child recognizing their own drawing in a story, then asking someone to read it again.
