Inspiration

I was inspired by the everyday drawings children create and how quickly those memories disappear. I wanted to turn them into lasting storybooks, growth records, and heartfelt gifts for loved ones.

What it does

Pashabook turns children’s drawings into personalized AI storybooks with illustrations, narration, animation, and keepsake videos. It helps families preserve creativity, track growth, and share meaningful memories.

How we built it

I built the frontend with Expo/React Native for web, iOS, and Android, hosted on Vercel for fast preview and deployment. The backend uses AWS services with DynamoDB for scalable job, user, drawing, and storybook state management. RevenueCat is used to manage subscriptions and paid plan access.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was monetization: balancing AI generation costs with pricing that still feels friendly for families. I also had to make generation reliable, handle failed jobs safely, and keep the experience simple.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud that a single child’s drawing can become a complete animated storybook experience. I’m also proud of building a practical system around it: subscriptions, sharing, retention, and generation recovery.

What we learned

I learned that AI products need strong product design, not just good generation quality. I also learned how useful Vercel is for fast frontend iteration, and how DynamoDB works well for event-driven creation workflows.

What's next for Pashabook

Next, I plan to release Pashabook as iOS and Android apps, with RevenueCat powering subscriptions across platforms. I also want to add more themed frames for birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and other gift moments. More personalization, stronger sharing features, and better paid creative controls are also planned.

Architecture

User → Expo/React Native App → Vercel Web Frontend → AWS API Gateway / Lambda Backend → DynamoDB Create Request → DynamoDB Job Record → SQS Queue → Worker Lambda → AI Story / Image / Video Generation Generated Assets → S3 Storage → Signed URLs → Storybook Playback / Sharing
