Inspiration
Coronavirus has really impacted the way our society functions today. Due to this virus, people have been forced to stay at home and practice social distancing in order to combat the spread of the virus. We were inspired to make this app in order to promote social distancing and inspire unity during a time of separation by connecting the video game community.
What it does
We designed partyscout which allows for users to connect with others and play their favorite video games together. At the moment, it is difficult to meet new people, but our application allows users to use the internet as a meeting ground.
How we built it
We built our site using node.js, mongoDB, google cloud, express and hbs.
Challenges we ran into
The greatest struggle of the site is getting off the ground when there are few users. To mitigate this challenge, we store requests by the user and notify them once a “party” is made. Another challenge was finding out how to store user information through the modular database given by mongoDB.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully developed a web app that brings people across the world together that allows people to find partners while increasing the amount of time for people to play games.
What we learned
We learned how to use node.js, express.js, and mongoDB. Additionally, we learned how to use various frontend techniques, such as handlebars.js and bootstrap.
What's next for partyscout
In the future, we hope to implement our own chat system to allow users to communicate as well as our own video calling system in order to fully integrate users into the platform and make it easier for them to play without having to rely on third party programs.
