Inspiration

I love games, but also know how difficult and complex it can be to design and develop a game from scratch. I wanted to create an app that can help aspiring game makers and enthusiasts to create and improve their games faster and easier, by using the power of generative widgets in the PartyRock playground.

What it does

Game Maker’s Assistant is an app that guides the user through the process of creating and refining their games, from concept to launch.

How we built it

I prototyped Game Maker’s Assistant using the PartyRock AWS hackathon platform, which provides us with a variety of generative widgets to create dynamic content. We used the following widgets:

  • Input Widget: This widget collects the user’s input, and to generate a genre, and a theme for their game.
  • Cover Illustration Widget: uses generative art to create a cover art concept for the user’s game.
  • Target Audience Widget: identifies the target audience for the user’s game, and to provide insights and statistics on their target audience’s preferences, behaviors, and demographics.
  • Core Gameplay Loop Widget: defines the core gameplay loop of the user’s game, and to provides feedback and suggestions for each element of their core gameplay loop.
  • Budget Widget: estimates a budget for the user’s game, and to provide tips and advice on how to reduce costs and optimize spending.
  • Key Features Widget: uses game design principles to generate and prioritize the key features of the user’s game.
  • Game Discussion Chatbot Widget: discuss and get feedback on the game concept, cover art, target audience, core gameplay loop, budget, etc. from a friendly and helpful chatbot.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Creating an app that can help aspiring game makers and enthusiasts to create and improve their games faster and easier, using generative widgets.
  • Completing the project within the time limit and the budget of the hackathon.

What we learned

Some of the things I learned while working on Game Maker’s Assistant are:

  • How to use the PartyRock AWS platform.
  • How to use prompts and game design principles to create engaging and interactive applications.
