Inspiration

About 10 years ago, I had this idea for a social media sharing app that would cross platforms called FotoBox. It was before its time and I did not have the technical skills to build it. Fast forward and AI has bridged that gap for many people, especially technical people. I dove down the rabbit hole of vibe coding a couple months ago and ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT!

What it does

PartyPix takes photo sharing and makes it absolutely simple for anyone to use. It takes NO social media so anyone can participate. Parties, weddings, birthdays, youth sports teams, brands, anyone can use it to share photos. You do not even need to be at the party! Links can be shared with family and friends to see the party as it happens. Live sharing. Immediate. From anywhere.

How we built it

I went all-in with tech Bolt integrates with already. Supabase for the backend, React frontend. I started with a basic prompt to build a photo sharing platform and over the month spent 20 or so hours exhausting the competition tokens, and 2 additional re-ups. All in all, roughly 50M tokens went into it.

Challenges we ran into

Building this app certainly was not without issues! I hit the context ceiling along the way and had to really attack the code to get it lighter so I could finish it. Luckily I have a strong coding background in OOP so I was able to really prompt well and shrink the codebase to give me the space to complete the app. Ran into some Supabase integration issues which took almost 5M to correct. Those were 2 sleepless nights because I had not deployed in quite awhile and I almost had to revert to a much older iteration that could've been the end of the project!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I think the fact that I vibe coded this into existence IS the accomplishment. Being a relatively new vibe coder (under 2 months) and never have completed a full stack project by myself, I have taken great pride in the result. My daughter loved it and wife is impressed so I will take that as a win! (A(ny) prize would be really neat too!)

What we learned

Wow, this is a tough one. This was a wonderful experience to participate in and I can say without a doubt I would 100% participate in another one of these. This really expanded my playbook and appreciation of AI coding tools like Bolt. I dabbled in a few others (Lovable, Launch.today) and Bolt (for me) is the clear winner. It's sparked an internal fire to really look at developing more apps and keep pushing my limits on what I can build.

I have a health and wellness app in the pipeline (HealthSimplified.netlify.app), designed a Log parser for a community of players for an up and coming online game I play (VeinLogger.netlify.app) and so many more. I am definitely addicted to vibe coding - thanks Bolt!

What's next for PartyPix

A month ago, PartyPix was barely a figment of my imagination but this has truly developed into a proper web app that I completely plan to push to see where I can take it. I have features in mind for after the competition and already looking into ways to market it to the public. If I am lucky enough to be considered for a prize, that would be a great validation to both my concept and design. Either way, thank you Bolt team for doing this. It is truly a modern day gold rush that the least technical to the most technical can compete on relative equality.
