Inspiration

Pre-show dead time at concerts is low-key awkward. You’ve got a crowd with the same taste, but everyone’s just scrolling. We wanted to flip that limbo into a social spark: a tiny stage where your Bitmoji performs when you high-five someone nearby. It’s goofy, low-pressure, and turns “waiting” into “we’re vibing.” Also, we’re obsessed with accessibility and community design—lyrics with translation, shared recaps, and easy friend adds so the connection doesn’t vanish when the bass drops.

What it does

Party in a Box is an AR experience for Spectacles that spawns “circles” around a venue. Join a circle, high-five someone, and your Bitmoji jumps on stage for a 10–20s set with your chosen track. Everyone in the ring sees synced visuals and lyrics. Afterward, the circle auto-curates a shared cloud recap and surfaces everyone’s Snap profiles so you can add each other.

High-Five Stage: handshake triggers your Bitmoji performance. Random Pop-Ups: every ~10s a new attendee’s Bitmoji pops up to dance. Sponsored/AI DJ: brand mascot or AI DJ performs; attendees’ Bitmojis join the dance wall. Scavenger Hunt: find the human behind a Bitmoji—instant icebreaker. Accessibility: live lyrics, translation toggle, caption box, visual beat cues.

How we built it

Platform: Lens Studio + Spectacles + Supabase (Auth, Postgres, Realtime, Storage) with Row Level Security for circle-scoped media and data. Sync: Connected Lenses–style shared state; presence channels per circle. Assets: Bitmojis are pulled by their ID and also customization is possible via uploading 3D animated models, audio, and time-coded lyrics via a lightweight portal Lyrics/Translation: On-device sync of time-stamped lines; pre-generated translation bundles for fast toggling. Anchoring: Shared world anchors to lock circles in space. Recap: Edge Functions assemble highlights from the circle’s shared uploads into a quick hype reel.

Challenges we ran into

venue Wi-Fi, hand tracking for high-fives, music rights

Accomplishments we’re proud of

  • Built a live lyric translation system so anyone could understand and sing along, regardless of language.
  • Designed new ways for fans to engage during real-world events through connected AR experiences.
  • Made live entertainment more inclusive by merging accessibility, creativity, and social connection.

What we learned

Physical gestures beat usernames for breaking the ice. Micro-performances (10–20s) keep energy high and reduce queue anxiety. Pre-caching is everything at venues; the best network request is the one you don’t make. Accessibility boosts participation—lyrics + translation made non-native speakers and hard-of-hearing folks feel included.

What’s Next for Party in a Box

Party in a Box began as a small experiment at concerts — a shared space where people connected through AR lenses. But the concept has grown much larger.
We see it as a new layer of live entertainment: transforming the downtime before and between acts into interactive, connected, and immersive moments.

Imagine fans exploring AR activations around the stadium, meeting avatars of their favorite artists, or collaborating in mini music creation experiences.
Party in a Box could become the next evolution of communal entertainment — blending physical connection with creative expression in real time.
