Inspiration

Some time ago we came across this niche of party games and it immediately spiked our interest. We've spent the next week researching the market and found out that there is quite a big interest in applications of this type. Some of them gather hundreds of thousands of downloads each month and generate surprisingly high income. We've studied their business models and made notes.

With that in mind the only thing that we could do was to create our own party game.

What it does

Party Animals is a truth or dare party game. The main futures are:

  • 8 premade decks such as: Starter, Friends only, Dirty, First date, For lovers, Total mayhem, Unreal and Bitter-sweet
  • Over 1000 compelling truths and dares
  • Three different game modes: truth or dare, truth or truth, dare or dare
  • Customizable decks: our database consists of 6 main categories (casual, love, absurd, cringe, rude, gross), which you can tweak to your liking to fully personalize your experience
  • Custom cards & categories: you can expand our database by adding your own cards or simply create your own custom categories

How we built it

We built this application mainly using Figma, Affinity Designer and Flutter. All of the assets are created by us completely from scratch. Our subscriptions are handled by RevenueCat.

Challenges we ran into

First challenge that we stumbled upon during the early phase of development was creating the app database. But after some hard work and many iterations we are proud to say that our database consists of well over 1000 compelling questions and dares that will suit every party.

Another obstacle that we faced was getting past the App review - both on iOS and Android. It took us almost two weeks to get everything right but it was a great opportunity to learn. In the future we will be able to use this experience to get through app review faster.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud that just within a few days of release we were able to get first users sign up for a trial version of Party Animals. Some of them converted to full-fledged subscriptions.

We are also very proud of the general outcome of our application and the way it presents itself both on App Store and Play Store.

What we learned

While creating this project we had an opportunity to learn things such as:

  • ASO: We've expanded our knowledge of app store optimization and after thorough research made sure to follow the best practices to boost the visibility of our application
  • Video editing: We've created our very own app trailer completely from scratch. You can see it under this link
  • Coding solutions: We had an opportunity to test and implement new data saving, state management and other solutions into our application.

What's next for Party Animals! - Truth or Dare Game

There is still plenty of room for improvement. In the nearest future we will focus on implementing new features such as: advanced gestures support, new cards and in-game events. In the meantime we will work on further improving our ASO to boost the app's visibility. We would also like to start an Apple Search Ads campaign soon and localize our application to more languages.
