Inspiration
It is harder to complete a hackathon solo. When you start a hackathon you may not know what you need to achieve to stay on track especially if you are just starting. You may procrastinate or things take longer than expected. Or you want to hack solo but think it would be great to meet a few people and ask questions but don't want to chat on an open forum like Discord.
What it does
Partner UP would be a tool in Devpost for small groups 2-4 people to work solo but together to achieve the milestones in their projects. Solo developers can experience a hackathon as part of a supportive team while hacking alone. There's a milestone calendar to track the hackathon timeline, to keep everyone motivated. Additionally there is a message/chat function so any issues can be discussed or offer encouragement to people trying to achieve the same goal. Devpost can match people and there is a page to join any open groups. Once the spots fill, a new group opens, people can leave a group if it doesn't work out and join another.
The project milestones are there to help keep motivation high in the group. Once people start ticking off things on the shared calendar, it will look like a shared personal journal. We want solo developers to stay excited, recognise the small steps on the journey are part of the process and feel comfortable sharing with others whilst being in a small supportive group.
This is to keep the developer focused and reduce incidents of feeling overwhelmed, burnout and reduce any procrastination that may occur. You can celebrate/ keep track of small project milestones on the way to the end and it allows people to share your achievements on the way to the larger goal ahead (project completion).
How we built it
Partner UP is incorporated into the participants devpost tab. Solo developers are provided with an option to find an accountability/check in partner/group. There is a calendar to provide group project milestones, which allows achievement tracking and a separate area to leave messages and have discussions. It tracks individual and group milestones by monitoring productivity.
