Inspiration

The inspiration for Parrot Redicious Travel comes from a love for Reddit communities, quirky humor, and the endless possibilities of AI-generated creativity. I wanted to create a fun, interactive way to engage with Reddit posts while adding some playful twists. By combining AI-powered chat and image generation with a parrot adventure, the app offers a unique experience for users who love Reddit and enjoy quirky content.

What it does

Parrot Redicious Travel is an interactive game that uses Reddit's developer tools and APIs to allow players to send their chosen parrots to travel across Reddit-themed planets. Players can enjoy unique, AI-generated postcards based on real Reddit posts, along with commentary and adventure.

How we built it

The app was built using the Devvit framework from Reddit for interactive posts and integrating the ChatGPT API (for generating comments) and Midjourney API (for creating images). The front-end was developed with React and Typescript, utilizing Vite for fast development. Custom MP4 animations and images are used to enhance the game's visuals.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating multiple APIs (Reddit, ChatGPT, Midjourney) and ensuring the game mechanics function smoothly across different platforms.

Working with AI-generated content to produce timely and relevant content within a 3-step process.

Handling delays in content generation and ensuring a seamless user experience while waiting for AI to finish its work.
