Inspiration

We took inspiration from the frustration we felt trying to find parking spots at busy spots like the PNE and downtown Vancouver. We also took inspiration form other crowdsourcing apps such as Uber and Airbnb.

What it does

Our app allows hosts to create listing to rent out their driveway or private parking spots for certain periods of time when they wouldn't need to use it. For users who want to look for a parking spot, they can use the app to find available parking at a certain time and date. The cost of parking would be much cheaper than traditional parkades and we would take a small commission fee for each transaction.

How we built it

We used React for the front-end and Python and Supabase for the back-end.

Challenges we ran into

None of our members had ever done back-end development so it was a challenge trying to set up the Supabase database and allow it to connect to the front-end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're very proud of the work we were able to accomplish in just 2 days of working on the project. The web app is basically complete with the exception of a payment system for transactions.

What we learned

We learned the importance of splitting up different components for each member to work on as if 2 people work on the same thing, it would be incredibly difficult to merge the work together.

What's next for ParkShare

We plan to add a payment system and upload our project to a cloud service so everyone can access the web app.
