Very few apps exist that address the problem of finding empty parking spaces, let alone solve it. We realized that crowdsourcing parking is one of the easiest ways to solve it.

What it does

Each vehicle has an in-built interface or app, that can be used to find designated parking spots near the destination. As and when, users move into the parking spots , the app is updated to fix the parking for that particular vehicle. Other users moving towards the same destination are notified of the number of parking spots available and time taken until a new spot opens .

How we built it

Used Android studio to build the mobile app.

Challenges we ran into

Image processing of parking spots to find whether they are empty or not can be a huge plus in solving the problem. However, it is also that big a challenge as satellite imagery as groundtruth is updated not very frequently.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Taking a step towards solving parking issues and providing a platform to empower a community of users in solving each other's parking woes.

What we learned

We learned that Parking is a complex problem, there are multiple stakeholders in this process - the users, the parking lot managers. Technology is one way to solve this problem, but building a sustainable business model is also a priority.

What's next for ParkOur

Integrating with smart cities and autonomous vehicles.
