Inspiration
We were inspired by the J B Hunt parking lots optimization challenge
What it does
It optimizes parking lot challenges faced by JB Hunt company representatives faced on a daily basis. It provides shuttle service to nearby parking lots to manage a large number of parking requests.
How we built it
We optimized parking spots based on proximity to the given building. Parking is directed to lots based on time, availability and proximity to the building.
Challenges we ran into
How to accommodate 3511 employees in a mere 2500 parking spots.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We adopted ideas to promote carpool and provide shuttle services to nearby parking spaces. We even built a parking lot percentage display which gives real-time data on parking availability and detriments use of the personal vehicle to lack of parking space.
What we learned
We learned a lot about optimization in restricted environments and to promote ways to reduce its negative effect.
What's next for ParkMyCar
We will continue to build this web app to better optimize real-time parking availability.
