ParkMate

Inspiration

Finding open parking is very cumbersome and time-consuming at CSULB.

What it does

ParkMate analyzes CCTV video or frames and detects available parking spots. The availability of open spots is reflected on our web app.

How we built it

We built a web app using Angular with the use of an API. The AI model detects the number of vehicles in the parking lot, hence we calculate the available parking spots.

Challenges we ran into

Finding a parking dataset as we wanted to train our own model using parking CCTV footage, but in 24 hours it was difficult to get.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Parkmate can even be used with very low-quality images or videos.

What we learned

We learned about CNN and AI models which can be used for predictions.

What's next for ParkMate

ParkMate will be used for detecting Vehicle license numbers for automatic authorization or ticketing purposes. Parkmate will be able to predict the possibility of finding a parking spot for a given time in the near future based on previous data.
