Inspiration
An unnecessary amount of time is spent by families to find their car in a parking lot, either at the supermarket or the mall. Thus, we developed a mobile application that would facilitate the search and allow users to quickly locate their parked vehicle, be it a car or a bicycle.
What it does
Parkit stores the vehicle's location and saves it in local storage, allowing the user to find their vehicle in a shorter amount of time. They are also able to take notes and pictures of the location and send this information through text to others.
How I built it
Using Swift in Xcode, we built the app implementing MapKit, UIKit, and CoreLocation.
Challenges I ran into
Getting MapKit to work, along with displaying values and table cells, proved to be rather difficult, but not impossible.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Since we were using Swift, finding help was rather a challenge itself, thus most of the problems we faced, we had to solve ourselves. Thus, the feeling of accomplishment was very satisfying.
What I learned
We learned how to handle various technical issues, as well as implementing successful teamwork strategies that allowed us to quickly solve the problems thrown at us.
What's next for ParkIt
Improve sharing and finding parking spaces
