Inspiration
I am an undergrad student at SRM University and my university is very vast and many students come here on daily basis to pursue their higher education, as most of the students day scholar many of them come to the university on their own vehicles and due to this there is a big issue faces by many students on the daily basis, and are unable to find places to park their vehicles , so this lead to the Inspiration in creating this project.
What it does
It would use the trackers and find the real time location of the vehicles and provide the information of vehicle spots to the system which would ultimately update the other users about the spots left or filled in the campus.
How we built it
We will built the basic system using simple tracker devices on the vehicles and by putting sensors in the parking lots by which the number of vehicles and parking slots would be noted. All the data is to be hosted on the Data bases of MySQL, the real time data must be transferred periodically using WebSocket. Constant monitoring of the database and the maintenance security must be done using AWS or Google Cloud Services.
Challenges we ran into
The major challenges would be putting tracker/sensors on all the vehicles as there are thousands of vehicle bein used on a daily basis in university which adds a financial issue, there are many empty places which are not part of parking spaces like gaps nearby buildings or on the side of roads where vehicles are parked , parking more than 1 vehicle at a particular one spot , plus loads of financial issues raised for constantly paying for the APIs DBMS and securities plus the electricity charges hardware processing needed are the challenges faces in the making of the project.
What we learned
We learned about the working of Tackers, Sensors, DBMS , using APIs , Data Analysis, Rea time data processing etc.
What's next for Parking Tracker
If adequate funding and proper support from the university is provided then this system could be implemented real time and would help the students a lot.
