Inspiration
I work in logistics. A big part of my job is talking to drivers to help them avoid and resolve issues. Drivers often share their everyday issues. The main was parking and how long it takes to find a good parking spot. This app helps improve this process
What it does
ParkAlong finds safe and good parking spots for drivers based on their route, relieving the stress and worry of possible overworking, violation and fine. The app uses the drivers route, available time and filters to find a parking which suits him the best
How we built it
We built ParkAlong using Laravel (PHP) for the backend, Blade for templating, and JavaScript/CSS for the frontend. The app integrates with OpenStreetMap/Overpass for live truck parking data and OpenRouteService for truck-aware routing. We also included a fallback dataset for Europe-wide coverage and used Vite for asset bundling. The UI is designed for quick trip setup and mobile usability.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating and successfully using multiple API's and creating the route based search
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating a real working prototype in a short period of time. As well as creating a good looking and useful UI.
What we learned
How to use Laravel for real life projects and how to implement live geospatial APIs with static datasets
What's next for ParkAlong
Next is the ability for drivers to rate parkings and leave comments, as well as add their own parkings, if they are missing on the app
