Park Quest
About Park Quest
Park Quest aims address Calgary Hacks 2024 topic 1, to “Use the City of Calgary’s Open Data Portal to develop a tool or application that supports and improves the lives of Calgarians.” By using Calgary’s Parks dataset, our app provides weekly quests that encourage users to visit a nearby park for up to an hour. Depending on how long users spend in the park, users will earn points that will show up on a competitive leaderboard among their friends and among Calgarians in general. We chose our app to answer the growing need for Calgarians to go outside and enjoy nature.
Why we chose this app
According to CBC, Canadians spend around three hours outside per week. Given how little Canadians spend outside, we made our app, Park Quest, to motivate Calgarians to get more fresh air a week and to discover the vast number of parks in Calgary. We made competitive leaderboards among friends and everyone in Calgary to motivate Calgarians to get outside. As a result, Calgarians will experience greater physical and mental health and a greater quality of life.
