Inspiration
Finding parking in MTL (and especially in downtown) takes a lot of work. We wanted to create a community-based app that helps locate parking spots so that you can avoid driving around in circles for 20 minutes.
What it does
Our platform features an interactive map highlighting parking spots near the user’s chosen location, making it easy to find convenient & affordable options. The user submits their location to create a new point or to reinforce a pre-existing point. They can also include a picture of the parking spot at their current location for further specifics.
How we built it
Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Penpot Backend: Python, Flask, MongoDB
Challenges we ran into
We initially attempted to link all spots on the map with the same fee (free/paid) together, leading to a highlighted road of a corresponding colour. However, we were unable to do this efficiently, so we ended up only displaying parking points instead of zones.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making our first React App and coming up with our custom css. Parsing our data from online sources and montreal municipal websites to find out where there is free parking. A lot of fun and research!
What we learned
