Our Story Behind The Parenting Pilot

I’m the father of a four-year-old boy named Dylan. He is the greatest gift my wife and I have ever received.

But Dylan’s journey didn’t start like a Hollywood movie—it began with a terrifying twist just three days into his life. He experienced complications during birth that led to brain injuries and a frightening seizure. We found ourselves in the NICU for ten long, uncertain days and nights.

New parents never imagine those first days filled with fear, sadness, and the unknown.

We were told to prepare for the possibility that our son would face a lifetime of disability. That nearly destroyed us. But somehow, my wife and I stayed strong—even when our world was filled with doctors, nurses, wires, machines, and chaos.

Like most parents, we searched every term the doctors used. Every late-night Google session only heightened our anxiety. But here’s what we came to understand:

Those doctors didn’t know Dylan. They didn’t know our family. And they didn’t know what we were made of.

When we finally brought Dylan home, we braced ourselves for the tough road ahead. The next 2.5 years were filled with neurology appointments, physical therapy, and countless scans. And still, we Googled everything. We lived and breathed medical articles and parenting forums—letting our emotions ride the rollercoaster of every post we read.

Most of those articles didn’t know who we were.
