Inspiration

The inspiration for the Parenting GenAI App came from the universal struggles and experiences shared by new parents. Recognizing the overwhelming nature of caring for a newborn, we wanted to create a tool that not only supports parents in their day-to-day tasks but also eases the stress and uncertainty that comes with early parenthood. By providing expert advice and a supportive community through an accessible platform, our goal is to empower parents and enhance their journey with their new child.

What it does

The Parenting GenAI App offers a comprehensive suite of features designed to assist new parents in managing the crucial aspects of newborn care. The app provides real-time personalized guidance on feeding, sleeping, health monitoring, and developmental milestones.

How we built it

We built the Parenting GenAI App using the Vertex AI Agent builder. We started by crafting detailed prompts that would guide the AI in generating responses suited to the diverse and dynamic needs of new parents. These prompts were meticulously engineered to cover a wide range of parenting topics, from feeding and sleep schedules to developmental milestones and health concerns.

Alongside prompt engineering, we curated a dataset from authoritative and trusted sources in pediatric care and parenting advice. This dataset included scientific research, pediatric health guidelines, and insights from experienced parents and healthcare professionals. By providing the AI with access to this rich data source, we ensured that the generated advice was not only relevant and personalized but also grounded in evidence-based practices.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was ensuring data accuracy and security, especially given the sensitive nature of health information. We made sure that the agent provides grounded responses and lets the user know when it should consult with a doctor.
