Inspiration

I always loved making games and wanted to do a little pixel art and make some music. I decided one experience a lot of people have is being home alone and hearing sounds or seeing things.

What it does

It currently is an interactive game demo where you explore the house and find a few different spooky events👻.

How we built it

I built it using unity, photoshop, and an ios app called beatwave for the music. I started by making pixel art in photoshop for the house layout as well as the player character with animations. Once the movement was set, I made a quick mirror that works as well. Then I went on to create an opening screen, end screen, some text interactions and polished it off testing for edge cases and such (leaving a dialogue early etc.).

Challenges we ran into

I didn't run into many game breaking challenges since I have a bit of experience with bug fixing in unity so most of the time I knew what to expect. Some things that are common are layering issues, forgetting to add public variables in the editor, or editing while the game is playing in game mode.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am very proud of the mirror I think it is a very cool addition that makes the world feel more interractive. Apart from that, the text system was something I have not done before which I learned how to integrate queue structures into it for better organization.

What we learned

I also have little to no experience in photoshop and music composition so making all the art, animations, and music was a whole lot of fun and a great learning experience. I now feel pretty comfortable with the unity animation system as well as sprite sheets and photoshop quick tricks.

What's next for Paranoia

I plan on possibly doing a little bit more writing for a story or puzzle adventure type game before I continue expanding the game. It is important to have an idea what the story is before you start. Whether or not I end up completing a polished game, I will definitely be able to utilize these sound tracks and maybe some of the art into other projects!
