Inspiration

Growing up in the film industry, and a fan of immersive experiences and franchises, I wanted to design an app which helped bring the amazing experiences that once were only available with big budgets films and theme parks, but make it more accessible to everyone on their phone.

We're calling it Super 9, as a play off of Super 8, which was the film camera Stephen Spielberg used to create home movies before become the world famous director we all know. Seeing this as the next evolutionary step in home movie making, we hope Super 9 will inspire the next generation of young filmmakers to think and imagine as big as they want when creating their worlds and stories.

What it does

Our app applies a real time AI filter to your phone camera that allows you to overlay a range of "worlds" - immerse yourselves in the snowy land a la "Frozen", or the hellish landscape of Hades, to the pristine lush greens of a "Lord of the Rings" type universe. And everything in between - your only limited by your imagination.

How we built it

iOS augmented camera app that primarily uses Reactor X2 (for the filter). In addition, we are able to add assets/props from Tripo and if desired a more detailed/specific visual world template from World Models, which was vibe-coded through Claude Code.

Challenges we ran into

It didn't natively work on iOS, so we had to go to Reactor's github and port things over. Also, internet latency issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built something pretty cool! After a lot of hiccups in getting it to run the first day, we finally have a working MVP that we're happy to build on top of.

What we learned

To be flexible, and ready to pivot. When you encounter roadblocks, stay calm and think of a new approach.

What's next for Super9

We are going to gather more feedback and see how we can iterate and develop it for other use cases.
