Inspiration

This game is a spine-chilling tribute to the cult Bollywood horror film Paapi Gudia, reimagined as a suspenseful, multi-realm rescue mission. Inspired by India’s rich cinematic legacy and the psychological horror genre. The idea emerged from a desire to gamify folklore and fear—where players become the hero in a world ruled by evil.

What it does

Paapi Gudia is a horror-action game inspired by Bollywood’s cult classic. Players must rescue kidnapped children from the criminal tantrik Chinni and his possessed doll. Traversing three realms—urban underworld, floating island, and demonic lair—players use audio cues, power-ups, and combat skills to defeat goons, eliminate Chinni, and finally destroy Paapi Gudia to save all the children

How we built it

We developed the game in Unity, leveraging audio to help guide players through dark environments. Enemy AI was layered to escalate difficulty across realms, while cinematic transitions and horror-inspired visuals capture the Bollywood aesthetic. Power-up mechanics allow players to fly between realms, and boss battles were designed with adaptive AI for suspenseful encounters

Challenges we ran into

Building it in a very short time Balancing horror elements with accessible gameplay demanded iterative design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Successfully blending Bollywood horror themes with immersive gameplay mechanics.
  • Building a three-realm progression system with unique challenges and climactic battles.
  • Delivering a polished demo with cinematic visuals and a horror-themed soundtrack.

What we learned

The project taught us the importance of iterative prototyping & optimizing for immersive platforms like Meta Horizon.

What's next for Paapi Gudia
