Paperwork Pack

Inspiration

Households, freelancers and small offices keep years of statements, tax forms and scans on a NAS. When a lender or accountant sends a list, someone loses an evening in scan folders, and a missing month surfaces after sending.

What it does

Paperwork Pack turns a document request list into a checked folder of files from the NAS plus a report of what is missing. Paste the list, and each line becomes one or more dated requirements. The Skill searches approved folders only, reads each candidate and matches it by type, issuer and printed period. After approval it copies the files into one pack folder with a report; originals never move.

Say "gather what my lender asked for" with the list. Confirm the requirements and folders, review the plan, approve. You get the folder path and the missing items. Later, "update the pack" adds only new files, and last year's pack becomes this year's checklist, so a missing form is flagged before the accountant meeting.

How we built it

SKILL.md chains nine steps, each fed by the one before, plus three references, checked with UGREEN's Skill Creation Tool (no errors or warnings). file-agent searches, copies and tags; photo-agent runs OCR on images; document-agent searches content, extracts and reconciles; knowledge-agent saves the report. NAS capabilities: ug-filesystem find, sha256sum, mkdir and cpmv in copy mode; ug-photo vision-ocr for text in images; ug-document qa (semantic_lookup, locate_content) when document indexing is on, extract and reconcile; ug-filemgr tag-add and tag-add-file; ug-knowledge save-text. The reasoning runs on the user's chosen model, with Local recommended.

Challenges we ran into

Search and chat assistants find and explain files, but neither checks a request for coverage. Matching has to use the period printed on each document, not file dates: a 2025 W-2 scanned in February 2026 must count for 2025, and a corrected 1099 must supersede the original.

Privacy and safety

The Skill confirms the model mode before reading, reads only approved folders, and writes only the pack folder after approval. Tags on originals need a separate yes. Account and ID numbers keep only their last four characters. On the Local model, no record leaves the NAS, and the Skill adds no scripts, network calls or sharing links. With a cloud or hybrid model, once the user confirms it, document text goes to that model.

What's next

Synthetic test files for the testing day: a lender list against statements missing August, an update run that adds only August, and the W-2 and corrected 1099 cases. Then OCR accuracy on phone photos and run time at scale, which need a NAS. It checks presence and periods, not amounts or authenticity, and gives no tax advice.
