Paper Planes: A Journey into Mixed Reality Crafting

Inspiration: The inspiration for Paper Planes stemmed from a desire to merge the simplicity of paper folding with the immersive capabilities of mixed reality technology. I was fascinated by the idea of bringing the art of crafting to life in a virtual space, providing users with a unique learning experience that blends the physical and digital worlds seamlessly.

Learning Experience: Throughout the development process, I gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of mixed reality app design and implementation. From mastering the Meta XR SDK's key APIs and building blocks to crafting intuitive user interfaces in Unity, every step of the journey taught me something new. I delved deep into spatial mapping, user interaction, and animation control, honing my skills and broadening the understanding of the possibilities within the realm of mixed reality.

Building the Project: The project began with some ideation and conceptualization, where I outlined the app's features, user flow, and technical requirements. Leveraging Unity and the Meta XR all-in-one SDK, I worked towards crafting each component, from the lifelike paper plane model to the dynamic tutorial system. I iterated relentlessly, refining the user experience and optimizing performance to ensure a seamless and immersive journey for every user. Shivraj (my teammate) helped in the preparation of the 3d model of the paper plane in blender and also did the animation for it which I integrated in Unity.

Challenges Faced: Building Paper Planes presented its fair share of challenges, particularly in integrating real-world physics with virtual interactions. Anchoring virtual objects to physical surfaces, maintaining spatial awareness, and synchronizing animations with user input were among the hurdles I encountered. Also I am still exploring how to bring complex paper plane models and make it easy to create for end user.

Conclusion: Paper Planes embodies my passion for pushing the boundaries of creativity and technology, offering users a captivating journey into the world of paper crafting like never before. With a blend of inspiration, learning, and determination, I have tried to craft an immersive experience that invites users to explore, create, and unleash their imagination in the boundless realm of mixed reality.
