π Inspiration As a student, I often found research papers overwhelming β either too complex or too time-consuming to go through in detail. I wanted to create something that could make research more approachable, especially for beginners and non-experts. Thatβs when PaperLenz was born β an AI tool that reads and explains research papers like a friendly academic buddy. πβ¨
π What it does PaperLenz is an AI-powered paper analyzer that helps users:
π Upload research papers (PDFs)/DOIs/abstract π Get simplified summaries and section breakdowns π See visuals like keyword clouds and readability charts π§ Receive personalized improvement tips π¬ Chat with a 24/7 AI assistant for clarifications π Adapt analysis based on academic level (school to research)
π οΈ How I built it I built PaperLenz using: React + TailwindCSS for a clean and responsive UI node.js for backend processing Groq AI engine for intelligent summaries and suggestions Tools like PyMuPDF, and Chart.js for parsing and visualizing insights Everything was stitched together with care to keep it lightweight and user-friendly.
π§ Challenges I ran into Parsing complex PDFs while keeping section structure intact Balancing detailed feedback with beginner-friendly language Ensuring the AI assistant gave helpful but concise answers Designing a clean UI that doesn't overwhelm users
π Accomplishments that I'm proud of Built the entire platform as a solo developer Created an experience that adapts to different academic levels Integrated a chat assistant for real-time support Designed a dashboard that makes paper analysis visual and engaging
π What I learned How to blend AI and UX for real-world academic use Improved my backend handling of document parsing Gained a deeper understanding of how to simplify technical content Learned how much value a clear and supportive tool can bring to students like me
π± Whatβs next for PaperLenz π Add version comparison and writing improvement tracker π Suggest suitable journals based on paper content βοΈ Add citation format checker and fix suggestions π Expand to support papers in multiple languages π₯ Possibly add peer review mode for shared feedback
