Inspiration

Every evening: "What's for dinner?" Meanwhile, food sits forgotten in the fridge and gets thrown out. We wanted an assistant you can just talk to while unpacking groceries, one that remembers what you have.

What it does

PantryPilot is a voice-first kitchen agent for Alexa+.

  • Track your pantry by voice: say "I bought eggs, spinach and rice" and it updates your inventory.
  • Plan dinner: ask "What can I cook tonight?" and get meal ideas from what you actually have.
  • Auto grocery list: missing ingredients are added to your shopping list.

How we built it

An MCP server exposes tools (add_items, list_pantry, suggest_meals, build_grocery_list) that Alexa+ calls. Amazon Bedrock generates meal suggestions from the current inventory, and pantry data is stored in [DynamoDB / local database - edit to match].

Challenges

Turning messy spoken input ("a couple of tomatoes") into structured items, and keeping suggestions grounded in the real pantry.

What's next

Expiry reminders, allergy and diet preferences, shared household lists, and one-tap grocery ordering.

PantryPilot — Building Smarter Food Management!

I'm excited to share an update on PantryPilot, a project focused on making kitchen and pantry management easier and more efficient.

Our Vision: Help users manage pantry items, keep track of available ingredients, reduce food waste, and make smarter decisions about what to cook.

What we're focusing on:

  • Organizing and tracking pantry items
  • Managing ingredients more efficiently
  • Reducing food waste
  • Making meal planning easier

Building PantryPilot is a great opportunity to learn, experiment with new technologies, and turn ideas into practical solutions.

This is just the beginning! I'm looking forward to improving PantryPilot, adding new features, and sharing more updates as the project evolves.
