Inspiration
This was inspired by Doordash, a popular app across many countries/states, used to place an order online for food and get it delivered to your doorstep. Inspired me to make a food pantry for the local people in need.
What it does
This app is designed for people with food instability to be able to look through a digital food pantry full of options of different healthy food, with a snack section for children. It let's you choose the food and schedule a meeting time, and location.
How I built it
First I made an inventory which keeps a list of all the food items in the pantry, then I decide how to show each item, it's name, amount, and when it expires.
Then, I set up a User portion for who can use the website which includes people who distribute food, those who help organize it (volunteers), and people in need of food.
Third, donations. I made a way for people to donate food and money through the website, they can see what is needed and they can give what they can.
Fourth, Transactions. This part would keep track of when the food comes and goes out of the pantry. (Action - History)
Lastly, Notifications. The website can send messages to remind people about important things like when food is running low or when a donation comes in.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge I ran into was actually publishing the website. I still have not figured out which ruined most of my hard-work and dedication, sweat, and tears I put through this project. It ended up not working, but I plan on trying to fix this and publish it soon after fixing the code.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am extremely proud of myself as a beginner coder to be able to even write the first line of code in this project, I worked day/night for this project. I never knew I would ever be so wonderful in coding eventually!
What I learned
I learned more about Django, and Shell. Before this Hackathon project I did not know a thing about Django, and Shell. Now I know 1-2 things about these two things.
