Inspiration

All of us have dealt with the issue of running out of certain foods and having to deal with the inconvenience of not being able to make certain meals or having to make multiple trips to the grocery store. That was our inspiration to build Pantryful and what we aimed to solve with the website.

What it does

Pantryful asks you to input food items that you regularly buy and use such as milk, eggs, etc. It goes through each food category such as dairy, protein, and produce. It also has an AI chatbot that gives recommendations based on what food they said they currently have.

How we built it

We built it using python for backend and for the AI chatbot and used HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the frontend.

Challenges we ran into

We faced several challenges during development, including refining the AI chatbot’s logic and working within the limits of our frontend experience. Debugging AI responses and integrating features smoothly required multiple iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As first-time hackathon participants, we are proud to have successfully built a functional web application. We challenged ourselves by working with new technologies and collaborating under time constraints.

What we learned

Through this project, we learned a great deal about technical collaboration, AI integration, and rapid development using tools like Streamlit. We also gained valuable experience in problem-solving and teamwork.

What's next

Next, we plan to expand Pantryful by creating an API that retail companies such as Target and Walmart could integrate with, enabling real-time inventory and pricing insights to further improve the user experience.
