Inspiration
1 in 11 people experience hunger daily, and it is a huge problem worldwide.
What it does
Our project uses barcode scanning to add items to a pantry list. It uses smart tracking and estimation to find out when the item expires, or you can manually enter in an expiration date. It sorts items by use first(expiration date) to find out what to use first. The system matches items in the pantry to recipes that use the ingredients. If they don't want to use the item, they can click donate, and the app will ask for a zip code. The system will match this zip code to food banks, pantries, and community fridges.
How we built it
We used expo for the app framework and we programed it in visual studio code, with the assistance of GitHub copilot.
Challenges we ran into
We were unable to connect our mobile devices to the app to test our demo.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to make a rough framework for expiration date estimation and a rough pantry/food bank finder.
What we learned
We learned how to use Expo to make app\s.
What's next for PantryCHUD(Cook, Help, Use, Donate)
We plan to continue to improve on this project by improving connectivity and cooperation to food banks and to improve expiration date estimation possibly through an ai backend.
