Inspiration

I have seen families who do not get healthy food. They eat whatever they can find, not because they want to, but because they have to. A lot of the time it is just random leftovers, cheap snacks, or whatever is left in the fridge. I know what that feels like. I know what it is like to not have access to healthy food. To eat what is there and just hope it is enough. That is why I made PantryChef. I wanted to build something that helps turn what people already have into real meals that are actually good for them. Something warm. Something balanced. Something that can make a difference without needing more money or more groceries. This is for the people who deserve better but are working with less.

What it does

PantryChef lets you enter random ingredients that are already in your kitchen. It gives you a full recipe using only those ingredients. It also shows the estimated cooking time, the full nutritional values like calories and protein, and lets you customize based on preferences like vegetarian, kid-friendly, budget or quick meals. If you find a recipe you like, you can save it to your favorites and come back to it anytime.

How we built it

I built PantryChef using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The layout is designed to be clean and easy to use. The recipe logic is built from scratch and connects ingredients to realistic meals. I hosted the project on Replit to keep it simple and accessible.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was figuring out how to keep the tool simple without losing value. I wanted it to be easy for anyone to use but still helpful in giving real recipes with real nutrition. Another challenge was making the meals feel healthy and relevant without needing extra ingredients.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that this tool actually helps people. It is not just a pretty site, it solves a real problem. I am also proud that it includes useful features like nutrition facts, time estimates, and a working favorites button that makes the experience more personalized.

What we learned

I learned how to build something with real world impact in mind. I learned how to write logic that matches ingredients to healthy meals, and how to keep everything user friendly. I also learned that sometimes the simplest tools can help the most when they are built with the right purpose.

What's next for PantryChef

In the future, I want to expand PantryChef so that it can connect to local food banks or shelters. That way, it can suggest meals based on what food items are being donated. I also want to add more preferences like cultural recipes, dietary needs, and multi language support so more people can use it worldwide. I want this tool to be used in schools, homes, and communities that need it most.
