Inspiration
As a college student, we often find it difficult to figure out what we can make using the limited items available to us. We built an idea to track our pantry and give us recipes to make with what we have available.
What it does
Pantry Pal manages our pantry, and shows what you can make without the headache of constantly checking a bunch of recipes and comparing it to what you have available.
How we built it
We used a combination of hardware and software to bring this idea to life. Using a barcode scanner to scan items from your pantry and a raspberry pi to translate that and run it into a node server, the server manages the inventory using the spoonacular API to collect recipes.
Challenges we ran into
Some of the issues we ran into was managing our time effectively given the short amount of time we had to create this project. Another issue we ran into was finding an effective way to scan items.
Accomplishments were proud of
Using our knowledge we have acquired throughout our years in the education system, we brainstormed, designed, prototyped, and implemented a full on project that we could use in our everyday life.
What we learned
How to rapidly prototype and collaborate to accomplish a project in a short amount of time.
What's next for Pantry Pal
Potentially be able to manage the quantity of food and be able to show what you are running out of and what you need to order soon.
