Inspiration
Growing up our team has repeatedly heard the same phrase: There is enough food for everyone, but not everyone eats. This is the heartbreaking reality for 50 million food-insecure Americans everyday. The problem? Accessibility.
What it does
Pantri is designed to bridge that gap. Pantri is an AI-powered food access platform that connects people with real-time, verified food resources in their community.
Food banks and restaurants can register their availability, and Pantri uses AI agents to verify hours and updates through email or voice. When someone declares a need for groceries or a cooked meal, Pantri matches them with the nearest verified source.
Instead of just listing food locations, Pantri ensures the information is accurate and actionable.
How we built it
Pantri is built as a full-stack system: The frontend is built on a clean, mobile-first interface built with swift, focused on ease of use and accessibility. The backend is built using FastAPI with PostgreSQL and SQLAlchemy for structured, scalable data handling.
Challenges we ran into
Our greatest challenge was our scope. Initially, our team had a much broader scope on what we wanted to integrate in terms of AI and automation. In the end, we ended up reducing the scope of our project to meet deadlines.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our team's first time building an app with a fully integrated front and backend, and we're especially proud that we were able to do it in such a meaningful app
What we learned
We learned important skills in collaboration and development. We also learned about defining clear goals and taking steps to achieve them. Excited to take these skills with us for the next hackathon!
What's next for Pantri
We hope to further implement our AI layer to use Twilio + ElevenLabs to call and get real-time information on food bank hours of operations, holiday schedules, etc and autonomously update our database to streamline the process for volunteers so they can spend more time boots-on-the-ground to impact more people.
