Inspiration

The uncertainty and lack of information around COVID 19 pandemic inspired this idea. When our family members have symptoms like soar throat, we were advised to quarantine within our home to contain and monitor so it does not spread to others. This lead to the idea that if everyone reported their location and symptoms anonymously, we can create a higher probability based on the data to map hot zones. This information can be used by individuals and local and global health organizations.

What it does

The PanTrac app relies on crowd sourcing to collect the location and symptoms from individuals who are uncertain if they are infected. Confirmed cases can also register their location and symptomatic progression. Individuals, organizations and local authorities can track live data on a map to help divert the resources and track this pandemic.

How I built it

The PanTrac is built as a prototype using Objective-C

Challenges I ran into

Location alone cannot be used as a source to identify the hot zone as it can create misleading information and potential chaos. PanTrac relies truly on crowd sourcing.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud that we live in a age where the entire world can come together in the hour of need and use the technologies that we have at our disposal to come up with solutions for global good.

What I learned

The problem that we have at hand can be contained with peoples power. A global initiative like organizing a hackathon worldwide is only possible at this time where we all are connected through internet which makes us believe that we can come out of the crisis collectively and share that knowledge at lightening speed.

What's next for PanTrac

PanTrac can evolve and with some refinements could be a potential tool that can be used in other usecases such as Flu tracker, Crime tracker etc.
